You may qualify for additional funding for overseas travel, including both internal and external sources. Usually you will need to apply directly for these schemes, funding and availability for which can vary year-to-year.
While you are typically assessed for the highest value funding available, in the case of some internal and external-administered schemes, it may be possible to hold multiple scholarships, bursaries, or grants simultaneously.
Internal - Monash University travel scholarships and funding

In addition to the Monash Abroad Travel Grant, the University provides various faculty-based and philanthropic funding opportunities. These options typically have specific eligibility criteria, such as location, degree, personal circumstances, or other factors. They usually require separate application processes and have different timelines from the Monash Abroad process.
It is not possible to hold both Monash-travel scholarships funding and the Monash Abroad (Australia) Travel Grant simultaneously.
External travel scholarships and funding

Some of our exchange partners and foreign government bodies offer scholarships and grants to encourage you to choose them as your overseas study destination.
The eligibility requirements, conditions and application details differ between each, so research them carefully and read the fine print.
As these are externally administered, it may be possible to hold these funds together with the Monash Abroad Travel Grant or internal Monash University travel funding.
City University of Hong Kong (CityU) currently offers one grant of HKD$10,000 (approx. AUD$2000) to students from Monash University.
This is not available every round, and CityU will decide who the successful Monash recipient is. If you are nominated to City University of Hong Kong as an exchange student, you may be asked to provide a personal statement as part of this selection process.
JASSO provides a stipend of 80,000 Japanese Yen per month.
Our partner institutions in Japan may or may not choose to offer the JASSO scholarship each round. If you are applying to an institution that is offering the JASSO scholarship, you may apply for the scholarship after you have been nominated by Monash University as part of your direct application to the partner institution. The partner institution will then decide which students are awarded scholarships.
Details about applying for a Monbukagakusho, MEXT or Japanese Government Scholarship will be provided, if available, at the time of applying to your host institution.

Students accepted for exchange at the University of Copenhagen for semester one each year will be considered automatically, no separate application is necessary. Monash Abroad will choose one applicant to be nominated for the Scholarship. Two recipients are chosen by the University of Copenhagen from the students nominated by its 19 Australian partners.
The scholarships are awarded once a year, and are worth DKK10,000.
Nicolas Baudin grants are offered by the Embassy of France to encourage Australian nationals to study for a semester or year at a French tertiary institution, and are worth up to A$2,500.

Work from six to nine months as English language assistants in metropolitan France or in French overseas departments, such as New Caledonia.
Open to students who are competent in French but do not necessarily have teaching qualifications, some Monash students have combined an assistantship with an exchange at a French tertiary institution.

This Scholarship provides successful students on exchange at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen or the Rupert Charles University of Heidelberg with a stipend of about €600-€1,400 per month for three to eleven months.

Participants in the program have the opportunity to live in Spain, start or improve their knowledge of the Spanish language and culture, and take advantage of an internship experience in public Spanish schools. The main role is to support Spanish teachers of English, or of other subjects such as science or social studies, which may be delivered in English, in primary or secondary education schools or language schools (adults).
Students will receive €800 per month, tax free, health insurance, paid school holidays and training. Some students have combined an assistantship with an exchange at a Spanish tertiary institution.

The Mangold Trust Study Abroad Scholarships are travel awards for advanced tertiary language students currently attending a university in Victoria who apply for an exchange or study abroad placement to continue their language studies overseas for at least one semester.
The scholarship funds contribute towards reasonable travel and living costs while the recipients are enrolled full-time at an approved overseas institution to study an accredited language and cultural program for one or two semesters (the minimum enrolment period is 12 weeks).
Advanced students of all modern languages are eligible to apply.
