Semester in Malaysia (Global Intercampus Program)
A Semester in Malaysia (previously known as the Global Intercampus Program) gives you access to streamlined study options and a generous funding package, all while studying at the Monash Malaysia campus.
As a Monash student, you can continue to study Monash units at Monash Malaysia, while exploring Southeast Asia.
You can follow the steps below for an overview of the Semester in Malaysia, and a step-by-step support with preparing your application.
Semester in Malaysia application dates
- Applications for the Semester in Malaysia commencing in semester one, 2027 open on Friday, 31 July and close at 4pm AEST on Tuesday, 20 October 2026.
Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science students

How does it work?
A Semester in Malaysia lets you undertake one or two semesters of study towards your degree at Monash University Malaysia campus.
While abroad you’ll:
- remain enrolled at your home Monash campus;
- pay your normal fees at your home Monash campus; and
- undertake units that will transfer directly to your home degree and appear on your Monash transcript.
Studying at Monash Malaysia
Monash Malaysia is Monash University's first international campus, located 18 kilometres from the bustling centre of Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia has a vibrant, global atmosphere and a diverse student population on campus.
What can I study?
Monash Malaysia offers a wide selection of units for you to study. While units are similar across all Monash campuses, you will find that Monash Malaysia offers localised units providing a unique study experience.
For language enthusiasts, the Malay Language is a non-credit earning unit, ideal for those who wish to learn the local language during their intercampus program in Malaysia.
While it may make more sense to study subjects in line with your majors and minors back home, you may be allowed to choose subjects from another one of Monash Malaysia's seven schools:
- Arts and Social Sciences
- Business and Economics
- Engineering
- Information Technology
- Psychology
- Pharmacy
- Science
If you're a Monash Australia student studying a Bachelor of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, you can apply for a one-semester intercampus program at Monash Malaysia in certain semesters of your degree (places are limited) - details of what you can study are here.

Step one: Check if a Semester in Malaysia is right for you
Step two: Research your units
Now that you have checked you meet the requirements and your course advice says a Semester in Malaysia works with your degree, the next step is to look for units that will work best for you.
The exception to this is if you are a pharmacy student, as you will have pre-approved units that you can study based on the semester you will be at Monash Malaysia - learn more here.
Step three: Complete your Application for Overseas Study form
Figured out what units you can study at Monash Malaysia? Then you can get started with your application!
Your application comprises two parts: the Application for Overseas Study (AOS) form, and your Study Plan. You will have to submit both parts prior to the deadline date for your application to be complete.
Step 4: Prepare your study plan
Using the units you identified in step two, it’s time to create a study plan which lists the units you would like to study while at Monash Malaysia.

Submitted both your Application for Overseas Study and your Study Plan? Great news!
Follow the link below to find out what your next steps are.
After your application has been submitted, it will be assessed by Monash Abroad and your faculty/ies. You will then be sent a study plan outcome advising which units have been approved or rejected, and if you need to submit additional units.
Below are the next steps to expect following submission of your application.
Step One: Receive an outcome on your application from Monash Abroad
Keep an eye on your emails after submitting, as this is how we will communicate with you about the status of your application.
When you'll receive your outcome
You will typically receive an outcome on your study plan from your faculty/ies around two weeks after you have submitted it.
Once you have received an approved study plan, you have been accepted into the program.
Step Two: Accept your place, and prepare documents for your visa application
You will receive further information about the above steps in your acceptance email.
Step Three: Attend our Pre-departure Information Session
Our Pre-Departure session is the last information session we hold before you go overseas, and we cover a range of topics to help you prepare for your studies at Monash Malaysia.
Further details will be emailed to you in advance of the pre-departure session.
Step Four: Finalising your pre-departure administration with Monash

Withdrawal
If you want to withdraw your application or are having concerns that may lead to you withdrawing from your program, email Monash Abroad.
Late withdrawal can affect your ability to apply for future Monash Abroad programs, so it’s really important to get in contact with us to discuss your options.

Your arrival and while you are on your intercampus program
Arriving in Malaysia
You will be provided with an arrival guide from the Monash Malaysia team, which includes the tasks that you’ll need to complete once you arrive in Malaysia - this includes information on orientation, the process from being picked up from the airport and driven to Sunway, and fulfilling your visa requirements.
Changing the units you are studying at Monash Malaysia
You may arrive at Monash Malaysia and may want or need to change your units. Perhaps some of the units in your study plan are no longer being offered, or the classes are full. If you're in this situation, the main thing is to ensure that you let your faculty/ies know so your enrolment can be updated and you get credit for the new units.
Make sure you continue to meet the minimum full time load of 18 credits.
Getting support while you are overseas
If you encounter any issues while on your program, there is always help available.
As a first point of contact, we recommend contacting the local mobility staff at Monash Malaysia. They are able to provide in-person support and will know of the local services available to assist you.
You can also get in contact with Monash Abroad and we will support you remotely. If required, we can also help organise counselling for you through Monash Counselling services.
We also have a resource on Monash University’s emergency contacts, and would strongly recommend taking note of the support services at your host institution as well as saving the emergency services contacts for your host country on your phone.
Using travel insurance during your program
After finishing your program
Leaving Malaysia
After completing your semester/s at Monash Malaysia, you will need to cancel your student pass before you leave Malaysia.
The process involves submitting your passport and completed documentation to the International Student Pass Office on campus.
To allow sufficient time for your student pass to be cancelled, please ensure that you submit your complete documents and passport to the International Student Pass Office four weeks before your departure date from Malaysia.

Receiving grades for your study at Monash Malaysia
After completing your program, Monash Malaysia will update your grades on WES, which will appear on your transcript.
Share your feedback with us
Following your program, we will be inviting you to complete a survey asking you about your experience. This will be optional, however we really value your feedback and it will be useful in helping us improve our service and plan for future rounds.
Re-adjusting to life back home
After you return home, you might be having mixed emotions – excited to see friends and family, but perhaps missing your life as a student at Monash Malaysia. This is a completely normal part of the readjustment process.
Reverse culture shock can last longer than the culture shock you experienced while you are away. After all, you were overseas for a relatively short while and your experiences abroad will help shape the person you become for years to come. So allow yourself time to get used to being back home and to process the experience you have just had.
This resource defines reverse culture shock, which involves the initial excitement of being home followed by difficulties adjusting back into your home culture, and strategies for managing it after you return home.
You may not experience reverse culture shock in the same way as other returned students, but it is important to know that you aren't the only one having mixed feelings about being home.
You might consider joining one of the many cultural clubs at Monash to keep your overseas experience alive.
Applying your intercampus program to your employability skills
Having an overseas experience on your resume can be a great help in securing a job or internship. Monash Career Connect have created an employability skills (PDF, 0.22 MB) worksheet that will help you include your experience in CVs and cover letters.
