ACICIS Short Term Programs
The Australian Consortium for ‘In-Country’ Indonesian Studies (ACICIS – pronounced Ah-chee-chis, as an Indonesian would say it) is a non-profit international educational consortium. ACICIS is the longest running provider of in-country Indonesian study programs and the primary mechanism through which Australian students pursue study in Indonesia for academic credit.
See here for the full list of ACICIS programs.
Short-term programs

Important Note:
The OS-HELP loan (if applicable) will be paid approximately 4 weeks prior to program commencement. These funds, therefore, should not be considered as your primary source of funding to pay program related deposits and balances.
New Colombo Plan (NCP) Mobility Grants
ACICIS offers varying levels of New Colombo Plan (NCP) Mobility grants (from $3000 to $7000) to eligible students. Please see here to see the amount of available NCP funding for each ACICIS program. Please note that students who accept this grant will not be eligible for the Monash Abroad grant.
ACICIS are responsible for selecting students and managing grant payments. Please contact ACICIS via enquiries@acicis.edu.au should you have any questions regarding their NCP Mobility grants.
OS-HELP Loan
OS-HELP is a Commonwealth Government loan program that provides financial assistance to eligible Commonwealth Supported Place students, to undertake some of their study overseas.
If you are eligible for the loan and wish to apply, please submit your application as per the relevant OS-HELP loan term deadline, even if you have not been accepted into your overseas program by that deadline.
Student Loans
If you need help with study-related expenses, please refer to the student loans website and talk to a student adviser at Monash Connect.
Travel Scholarships
Please refer to the travel and placements scholarship website for more information.
IMPORTANT - Do not pay the program deposit or organise flights until you have:
- received host (ACICIS) acceptance;
- received full study plan approval from your faculty(ies); and
- been enrolled into the associated study abroad unit(s)
Note: You must complete all three steps below, to both Monash Abroad and ACICIS, by ACICIS' stated deadline (see ACICIS' website here). Complete steps 1 and 2 as early as possible in order to receive approval by ACICIS' deadline.
How to Apply
Before commencing your application, please check that you meet the eligibility criteria for Global Summer/Winter Programs listed here.
Step 1: Submit the application form
Submit your application here. You must complete the form by the application deadline.
- Fill in the fields as described in the first half of the form.
- Check the “Partner-led programs” button in the Program details section.
- Select the ACICIS Short Term program in which you are interested from the dropdown menu. If the program has multiple sessions, ensure that you select the option with your desired session.
- Select the year, the relevant term (Summer A/Summer B/Winter), and 'Short term'
- Complete the rest of the form, read and agree to the Terms and Conditions and submit the form by the deadline.
Note that your application will not be considered until you have submitted your study plan.
Step 2: Submit your study plan
Alongside your application, you must submit a study plan here, as your faculty(ies)/school(s) must approve the unit for credit to your Monash degree(s).
- Fill in your basic information.
- For the proposed units of study, write the name of the program (e.g., Law Professional Practicum), the number of credits, if known (e.g. 50% of a full semester load), and a link to the ACICIS program. Complete the rest of the study plan according to how you intend to receive credit for the program.
Until both the study plan and the application are complete, your application will not be considered.
Step 3: Apply to ACICIS
After you have been approved for credit, you can apply through the ACICIS website before their deadline. Keep in mind all ACICIS application deadlines as published on the ACICIS website.
Tuition fees
You are responsible for paying the tuition fee directly to ACICIS as you are being enrolled into a Study Abroad unit which does not have any Monash tuition fees attached. As you are being enrolled into a Study Abroad program, which does not have any Monash tuition fees attached, it is a placeholder unit only. The tuition fee cannot be deferred via FEE-HELP.
More information regarding the tuition fee and payment method can be found on the ACICIS website.
