Program details

The Arts semester in Prato program is flexible, immersive and enriching. Don’t want to study overseas for a full semester? Tailor your time in Prato to suit your needs!

The Semester is broken up into 3 blocks. You can study in Prato for 1, 2 or 3 blocks. Block 1 & 2 is 3 weeks long and Block 3 is 4 weeks long. Units from various areas of study will be offered. You can study 6 or 12 points per block, but a maximum of 24 points across all 3 blocks. or if you select the study tour in Block 3 only one unit can be studied. You can make your unit selection via the application portal (MAP) when it is open.

Prato is a beautiful and historic Italian city, surrounded by medieval walls and set in a picturesque Tuscan landscape. Prato is also within easy reach of other cities such as Florence, Venice and Rome, which makes it a perfect base for exploring Italy and beyond.All students participating in the Arts in Prato program will receive a $1000 Monash Abroad Travel Grant (not applicable if you are receiving another grant/scholarship).

Students will need to book their own flights for the Semester in Prato program. Please DO NOT make any flight bookings until you have received confirmation from the Faculty of Arts.
Students will need to budget for food, spending money, incidentals, visa (if required).

Monash Australia Students will receive $1000 Monash Abroad Travel Grant (not applicable if you are receiving another grant/scholarship). Read more here

Arts in Prato Travel Grants of $2000 are available to eligible students based in merit, equity and students studying Italian studies, applications for scholarships close 14 Feb 2020. You can find out more information here. If you have missed this deadline, look out for an email from the scholarships department mid year as there may be another round of scholarships to apply for, if not all have scholarships have been allocated.

Program fees

$300 per unit paid at time of application except for ATS2612/3612, program fee still to be confirmed.

- Parliamo Italian Language + culture sessions (only applicable to non Italian Studies students)

* The Program Fee is in addition to your Monash tuition fees

Accommodation Fees

For security, safety and visa requirements, all students undertaking units in Block 1, 2 or 3 must stay in Monash-approved accommodation in Prato. For this reason, our Travel Service Provider will book your accommodation in Prato on behalf of Monash University. Non-refundable accommodation deposits of 20% of the total booking fee is required at time of to application approval.

Accommodation will include the Sunday night before the block starts and include the Friday Night of the day the block ends. If you are studying two consecutive blocks, the additional night between blocks will be included in your accommodation.

* In the Monash Abroad Portal a link to our Travel Service Provider will be provided that outlines accommodation options and prices.  All accommodation is twin/triple share. Special requests may incur a supplement fee.

How to Apply

* Please note that deposits are not refundable except in the case that your application is not successful. Read the full refund procedure.
** Upfront payments must be made; these loans and scholarships will not be available before the program fee due dates
*** Arts Study Tours have a minimum number of students to be able to go ahead. Students should not make any travel arrangements until the Faculty has endorsed their application and confirmed the program will be going ahead.
