Program details

The Monash Chinese Intensive Language Program (CILP) is a highly intensive Chinese language summer course held at our Chinese partner universities in Shanghai and Beijing. CILP is a three or six week program that takes place each year at Shanghai International Studies University and at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing. Both universities have outstanding reputations in foreign language and translation studies teaching and are members of China’s National Project 211 (100 key universities for the 21st century).

The Monash CILP caters for learners of various levels and allows students to complete one or two Monash Chinese language units within a Chinese language and cultural environment. The teaching materials, contact hours, course outline, assessment and workload of the Chinese Intensive Language Program units meet the requirement of the corresponding Chinese units offered at Clayton campus by the Monash Chinese studies Program.

Shanghai International Studies University (SISU)

A globalized university in Shanghai, SISU has successfully developed a diverse and distinctive mix of disciplines with language and literature as its pillar. SISU offers language and culture studies options for students of intermediate to advanced level. Notable alumni include:

China’s leading university in the field of economics, finance and international business. UIBE offers translation studies options for students with advanced language proficiency. Notable alumni include:

FAQ

- Yes, provided you have at least intermediate level proficiency as determined by the placement test. If you have never studied Chinese at Monash, Please access the language test from the link on this page.
- After successfully completing the 3-week’s study, you will receive 6 Monash credit points. This is equivalent to completing one unit within one semester at Monash University
- If you can successfully complete 6-week’s study, you will receive 12 Monash credit points, This is equivalent to completing two semesters at Monash university.
- Students studying with the CILP program will receive a converted mark and standard grade (HD, D, C etc) for the units they undertake with their host institution. The mark and grade will contribute to your WAM and GPA.
- After the program is completed, the host institutions will provide Monash University with the transcripts and final assessments for each student.
- The Chinese department will review the final assessment and will provide each student with a converted mark and grade.
- The mark and grade will be made visible on WES by the Arts Faculty.
- Monash will provide students with a link to register for accommodation on or near the university campus. This will be an arrangement directly with SISU or UIBE. Accommodation will start from Saturday the 23rd of November in order to attend the enrollment afternoon on Campus on November 24th.
- According to PRC law, individuals of opposite gender who are not married cannot share a room. In order to share a room, you and your preferred room-mate will need to check in at the same time. Please ensure that you and your proposed room-mate will be studying for the same period (3 or 6 weeks). You need to ensure you have a roommate if you want to twin share.
- Yes, if you have immediate family living in the same city you can stay with them, but you need to inform us and provide us with accurate and up-to-date contact information.
- Yes, students will need to organise their own accommodation for this period.
Students cannot enrol into the units independently or via Monash Connect. Arts Global Programs will enrol students who are eligible. Student will receive an offer letter. We advise students not to make any financial arrangements until you receive confirmation from Arts Global Programs that your acceptance is finalised.
