Sounds Unheard Workshop  
Sounds Unheard is Speak Percussion's free education program for Victorian secondary music students, offering unique opportunities for young musicians and composers from all areas of music making to expand their knowledge and creativity. Percussionists of all ages are invited to join Speak for this workshop, exploring creative ways to make music together.

Expand your sound: Ableton for percussionists and drummers   
Electronic musician and recording engineer Hadyn Buxton shares insights in studio production for percussion instruments, including microphone techniques, DAW skills and more.

Timpani maintenance workshop  Yahama logo
Yamaha Music instrument technician Brae Grimes leads this workshop suitable for teachers, students, and everyone who plays, looks after, or transports timpani. Brae is a qualified technician under Yamaha Music Japan, having trained at the Toyooka Factory in Hamamatsu, Japan and will share expertise on how to identify and fix rattles, how to prevent common instrument issues, and keep your instruments in excellent shape.

Frame drums: techniques, rhythms and the effect of materials  
Join musician and instrument maker Matt Stonehouse exploring the millennia old history of the frame drum; its many different uses, materials used and the effect they have on tone and society simultaneously. Participants may be invited to create a small frame drum ensemble.

Vibraphone performance skills  
In this workshop, you are invited to explore the vibraphone’s superpower - resonance! Monash University Percussion Coordinator Dr Louise Devenish will demonstrate a range of musical, technical and creative approaches to the vibraphone through performance of solo repertoire, and discussion. This class is suitable for secondary and tertiary level students.

Improvising on the drumkit  
Maria Moles (Manifesto) will share her wealth of knowledge surrounding improvisation and creativity at the drumset. Suitable for drummers and percussionists.

Concert!   
Featuring performers from the Monash undergraduate and postgraduate percussion studios, this exciting concert will reveal the Australian premiere of work by Ivan Trevino, showcase favourite quartets for mallets by Cameron Sinclair and drumsets by Julia Wolfe, create exploratory beauty in work by Jude Traxler, traditional Zimbawean marimba repertoire and much more. This concert is not to be missed!

All are welcome to chat one-to-one with faculty and students during this time! Ask about our undergraduate and postgraduate courses in percussion, our audition process, explore the many ways to connect with percussion at the Sir Zelman School of Music and Performance if you are doing double degrees or other majors, look around our new facilities, or just say hi to talk percussion because we love it.
