Music in Australia
Co-Convenors
Music in Australia is a flagship research group of the Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music and Performance. This research group of scholars, artists and educators engage in research across all musical forms, with a particular focus on contemporary music practices and how they contribute to global societies. We research and develop Australian music history, practices and processes, disseminating this work through written, digital and creative publications, events and advocacy. As part of this, we research contemporary social and cultural issues as they pertain to all music, such as gender equity, First Nations participation, innovation, creativity and social cohesion. The group aims to heighten awareness of Australian music in all its forms to the rest of the world, as well as ensuring the Australian community celebrates its own history, current practices and contributions to the evolution of music.
