Specialisations (in the Bachelor of Music)

Composition and Music Technology

Explore the future of music creation in a specialisation blending creativity with technology. Whether composing, songwriting, or scoring for film and games, you'll collaborate with performers, work with international artists, and produce your own recordings. Gain hands-on experience with industry tools and vintage gear in top-tier studios. With workshops and strong industry connections, you'll graduate with a standout portfolio and the skills to launch a global music career.

Music Performance (choice of Classical or Jazz)

Bring your musical voice to life in a performance specialisation for classical, jazz and improvisation students. You'll refine your technique and artistic identity through one-on-one training, ensemble and solo opportunities, and masterclasses. Study tours to the Monash Prato Centre in Italy and locations across Australia offer cultural immersion and context. With electives in chamber music or jazz composition and strong industry connections, you'll graduate ready to thrive as a performer, collaborator or educator.

Popular Music

Turn your passion for contemporary music into a career with a specialisation in performance, songwriting, and production. Develop your technique across styles through solo and group performances, recording projects, and original music. Gain experience in stagecraft, live performance, and studio production, while exploring popular music's history, trends, and business. With mentorship from industry-connected teachers, you'll graduate ready to succeed in today's music industry.
