Monash Piano Duo Prize

OVERVIEW

The Monash Piano Duo Prize is awarded for excellence in piano duo performance.  Sponsored by Pinot Shop.

AWARD

The successful duo will receive a prize payment of $1,000. Additional performance opportunities may be offered to the winning duo and finalists.

ELIGIBILITY

The prize is open to all undergraduate and Honours year piano students in the School.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Duos are asked to demonstrate diversity in their programming. Aspects to consider include gender, time, place, musical style and character. The inclusion of works by female-identifying composers and Australian composers is encouraged.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The Prize will take place over two rounds. Up to four duos will be chosen from in-class heats during Week 8. The finals of the inaugural competition will be held on Saturday 20 September 2025 as part of the Monash Day of Piano.

Each duo will design and perform a piano duo program (four-hands, one piano) with a total performance time not exceeding 15 minutes.

  • The program must include at least two works. Movements drawn from larger works are acceptable.
  • The program may include arrangements and transcriptions. Duos must perform at least one original work for four-hands.

IMPORTANT DATES

Round 1: Week 8, semester 2 - in-class heats
Round 2 - Finals: Saturday 20 September 2025, Day of Piano
