Monash-Pratt Postgraduate Award for Research

OVERVIEW

Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music and Performance will annually offer the Monash-Pratt Postgraduate Award for Research.  The purpose of this award is to give outstanding postgraduate applicants greater financial support for fieldwork and dissemination of their research projects.

The successful candidate will demonstrate academic and artistic excellence in music research.

Monash University is the largest university in Australia and regularly ranks in the top 100 universities worldwide. Music at Monash is internationally renowned, with a strong research culture, led by a dynamic group of researchers. Monash is a leader in practice-led artistic research, and has a distinct research voice in Australia.

AWARD

The successful applicant will receive a prize payment of $6,000.

One (1) prize payment is offered each year.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Applicants will be considered provided that they fulfil the criteria for PhD or research Masters admission at Monash University. Details of eligibility requirements to undertake a PhD in the Faculty of Arts are available at https://arts.monash.edu/graduate-research/application-process/.
  • Candidates will be required to meet Monash admission requirements which include English-language proficiency skills.
  • Successful applicants will be expected to have enrolled by 1 March 2026. However, there may be some flexibility as to the date of commencement.
  • The successful applicant must be enrolled full time.
  • The successful candidate is expected to ongoingly participate in and contribute to the broader research culture in the school, for example through engagement with the Research Seminar series, performance opportunities as appropriate.
  • The successful candidate will be supervised by researchers within the Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music and Performance.

SELECTION CRITERIA

The application will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Academic track record
  • Artistic track record
  • Quality of proposed postgraduate research project

This award will be awarded to the highest ranking scholarship recipient in the PEC round 4 deliberations.

Awards will not be awarded in the case that no applicant meets the criteria.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

No application required.
All round 4 PhD and Masters of Research applicants will be placed up for consideration.

IMPORTANT DATES

Applicants assessed: PEC Round 4 Scholarship Ranking Meeting by 3rd Friday, November

Notification of outcome: Early December*
*The successful applicant will receive communication of the outcome via email (conditional letter of offer)
