Schumann Marathon
2026 Day of Piano
SCHUMANN MARATHON
Sunday 23 August 2026
10am – 7pm
The Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music at Monash University warmly invites you to join us for a day inside the piano world of Robert Schumann (1810-1856) – a composer whose music lies at the heart of the Romantic piano repertoire, and whose boundless imagination and poetic voice continue to inspire and move pianists and audiences alike.
We bring together Monash piano students and staff alongside guest artist Lee Dionne in six concerts exploring Schumann’s extraordinary piano repertoire. From the imaginative early Abegg Variations Op. 1 to the enigmatic Gesänge der Frühe Op. 133, the marathon spans the breadth of Schumann’s creative life. Along the way are beloved pieces including Kinderszenen and Kreisleriana, rarely heard works, music by formidable pianist-composer and Robert’s closest artistic companion Clara Schumann, and a concert dedicated to Robert’s works for piano duo.
Come and spend a special day immersed in Schumann’s world of poetry, imagination, and deeply personal expression.
