How wellbeing workshops benefit Luther College students on elite pathways
17 June 2024
An independent secondary school in Melbourne’s outer east, Luther College chose Monash Corporate Education to deliver wellbeing and performance workshops for their ASPIRE (Advanced Support Program and Individual Recognition of Excellence) students pursuing elite pathways in sports and the performing arts.
This partnership, which started in 2021, equips students with practical strategies and key performance insights through the delivery of engaging wellbeing education by our academics and associates.
Each year the program focuses on different wellbeing themes based on student feedback.
In 2022 and 2023, our facilitator, Associate Professor Carly Moulang, presented a series of workshops covering key topics such as:
- Mindsets and goal setting
- Study and time management techniques
- Internal and external judgements and performance anxiety
- The connection between physical and mental wellbeing
- Creating a healthy relationship with technology.
In 2024, the program will focus on nutrition and sleep, and Monash Associate and Performance Dietitian Jessica Spendlove will deliver a masterclass on optimising nutrition to meet students' energy requirements for school, performance, and life.
This will be followed by a masterclass on sleep for peak performance and a panel discussion on the practical application of nutrition and sleep, featuring Monash University students sharing their experiences.
I really felt the ASPIRE workshop had been moulded around us, not just as students, but as athletes and individuals.
— Tom, Year 9, Luther College
I found the nutrition workshop highly valuable as the information from Jess on how to nourish my body for my energy requirements was a completely different approach.
