Stephen is an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Business, Government and Law at the University of Canberra attached to the National Centre for Social and Economic Modelling (NATSEM). He is a Certified Investment Management Analyst and has three decades s of experience working in the industry and the government. He has worked in the Australian Public Service (The Treasury and Department of Finance and Administration), International Monetary Fund, Industry Super Australia and other think tanks.
Stephen has extensive experience in macroeconomic modelling and policy, analysis of global capital markets, and research issues relevant to management teams oversighting long-term multi-asset portfolios. His research interests include examining the interaction between capital markets, flow-of-funds, and the macroeconomy.
As a skilled economic forecaster. Stephen contributes to the Reserve Bank of Australia’s quarterly survey of market economists and is a four-time winner of The Age / Sydney Morning Herald BusinessDay Economic Survey for 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2018. He also contributes forecasts for the AFR Economic Quarterly Survey and for The Conversation forecasting survey.
Stephen is a member of the New South Wales Community Housing Industry Council (CHIC), a member of the China Australia Financial Markets Working Group (Victorian branch), the Melbourne Economic Forum convened by the Victoria University and the University of Melbourne and an invited member of the Minerals Council of Australia Boathouse Luncheon Policy Forum.
