How to switch between Monash accounts
How to switch between Monash accounts
If you have multiple Monash accounts, you may need to occasionally switch from one to another. For example, you may have a staff account and a student account, and need to switch between the two.
At Monash, we use the multi-factor authenticator Okta Verify for single sign-on (SSO). This allows you to automatically log into any Monash website where you have permissions with a particular Monash account. But if you want to switch from this account to another Monash account, you should clear cookies, browse privately or add another browser profile.
When you clear cookies, you remove website data stored within a web browser. Clearing cookies can make it easier to switch to another account.
To clear your cookies, open your web browser and follow the relevant steps:
Once you’ve cleared the cookies, close your browser. Then reopen it and go to the relevant portal and log in using the account you’re switching to.
When you use private browsing or incognito mode, your browsing history and cookies are not saved and you can readily switch to another account.
To browse privately, open your browser and follow the relevant steps:
Once you’ve opened a private window or tab, go to the relevant portal and log in using the account that you’re switching to.
You can keep your Monash accounts separate by adding another browser profile. This way you don’t need to sign out of one account to sign into another. You can simply switch profiles. Each profile has its own bookmarks, history and other settings.
To add another profile, open your web browser and follow the relevant steps:
Once you have more than one browser profile, you can select the one you’d like to use.
- Open your Firefox web browser
- Go to about:preferences#privacy
- Under Cookies and Site Data, select Clear Data.
- Select Cookies and site data, and then select Clear.
- Close Firefox
- Open Firefox, go to https://my.monash.edu and log in using the account you’re swapping to
