Admission to practise law in Victoria

Monash Law students and alumni wishing to apply for Admission to Practise in Victoria are required by the Victorian Legal Admissions Board to provide an Academic Conduct Report from the University for any course in which they have been enrolled.

Processing times: Faculty of Law processes these requests in fortnightly batches on Tuesday. Please note that the Academic Conduct Report will be made available to the applicant 5 University working days before it is sent to VLAB so that the applicant is made aware of what is being disclosed.
Please visit the Academic Transcripts webpage for instructions on ordering a digital transcript and linking your My eQuals account to Monash University. Once purchased, applicants can share their digital document by generating a link on the My eQuals portal and sharing it with vlabdocuments@justice.vic.gov.au.

Processing times: Upto 3 business days.
The student is entitled, and indeed required, to be familiar with the content of the Report before he or she includes it in the application. Monash University should provide the Report to the applicant 5 working days before it is sent to the Board so that the applicant is made aware of what is being disclosed to the Board. Consistent with the University's general obligations under the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (Vic) and to mitigate the risk of an aggrieved applicant making a privacy complaint about the disclosure, where a Report contains information adverse to the applicant, the University should give the applicant an opportunity to raise any concerns about the Report before the information is disclosed the Board.
We understand that this is a significant milestone for students. However, we must stress the importance of our fortnightly timeline to both students and law firms as it is still always the individual applicant’s responsibility to request their Academic Conduct report in sufficient time.
Unfortunately, we are unable to expedite any requests outside of our fortnightly cycle due our wider processing times.

Process Update

01 March 2023: This process is currently under revision to align with VLAB's Admission guidelines in 2023, including the delivery of Monash University's digital documents.

28 March 2023: The Faculty of Law will no longer be providing Academic Records on behalf of applicants to VLAB as a part of the above request. Applicants will need to purchase and share their Digital Academic Transcript with VLAB via My eQuals (instructions provided above).
