Daniella Cosentino Named Finalist in Australian Law Awards

Passionate and high achieving law student Daniella Cosentino has been announced as a finalist in the prestigious Australian Law Awards. The recognition comes in the “Law Student of the Year” category, highlighting her outstanding achievements and commitment to legal education.
In addition to being a Monash Law student, Daniella is also a 2024 CLARS intern, doing paid research work for members of the Centre for Commercial Law and Regulatory Studies. As a Research Officer, she has contributed valuable research to Professor Jennifer Hill’s work and says seeing the academic side of Monash Law has been a rewarding experience for her.
Daniella won the Undergraduate Prize for ‘Global Issues in Private and Commercial Law’ in 2023 and ‘Trusts Law’ in 2021.
Daniella’s journey to becoming a finalist in the Australian Law Awards began when she encountered the awards while working as a dispute resolution paralegal at a commercial law firm. The process involved answering thought-provoking questions, where she discussed her academic accomplishments, work experience, innovative ideas, and passion for the legal field.
The news of her finalist status reached Daniella via email and phone call, followed by an official announcement the following day. Her humility and gratitude shine through as she reflects on the significance of this achievement.
“To me, winning ‘Law Student of the Year’ would mean recognition not only of my personal efforts but also of the incredible support I’ve received throughout my law school journey,” Daniella shared.
“From my family and professors to colleagues, mentors and friends, I am thankful for everyone who has contributed to my growth.”

Looking ahead, Daniella sees this award as a catalyst for continuous learning and improvement.
“I want to use this award as motivation to keep growing, both as a law student and, eventually, as a lawyer. My ultimate goal is to use my learnings and knowledge to contribute to society.”
Daniella won’t be able to attend the awards ceremony at the end of August due to her overseas commitments. She’ll be travelling internationally for an internship with the international trade law division of the United Nations.
“I’m excited for the UN internship,” Daniella said.
“It’s a unique opportunity to gain an understanding of global trade law issues in an international environment before commencing my legal career journey in Melbourne.”
As the Australian legal community eagerly awaits the awards ceremony, Daniella’s journey continues to inspire fellow students and legal professionals alike. Her dedication, curiosity, and commitment to growth exemplify the qualities that make her a deserving finalist in this prestigious competition.
Monash Law wishes Daniella all the best for the 2024 Australian Law Awards ceremony which will be held on Friday 30 August.
