Program

  • Students will open the concert with a performance from their album, Footprints: reflections about identity and connection to place, looking at familiar surroundings from new perspectives. The program will include works by Deborah Cheetham Fraillon AO (Yorta Yorta soprano, composer and founder and Artistic Director of Short Black Opera), Aaron Wyatt (Monash University SZCSoMP faculty, conductor, violist and composer), Brenda Gifford (Yuin classical composer, saxophonist and pianist), and Gina Williams (Ballardong Noogar) and Guy Ghouse - (Award winning duo songwriters and performers from WA).
  • The Wilfred Brothers will then share traditional manikay (public songs) from North East Arnhem Land that can be traced back for over 40,000 years. David plays the yidaki (didgeridoo) and is the Djunggayi (manager) of the manikay.  Theirs is the oldest continuously practised music tradition in the world.
  • Students will then join the Wilfred Brothers on stage to close the performance.
