Encounters: Artistic and scientific approaches to investigating the world around us

A workshop series connecting artists and scientists working with experimental methodologies in their research practice. In each session, one artist and one scientist respond to a provocation from convenor Dr Louise Devenish. Each session is accompanied by a pre-activity (such as a reading, listening, or viewing task) and a performance connected with the provocation topic to aid in stimulating responses, discussion, and ideas.

Workshop 1 Methods of attunement – Featuring Katherine Zeserson (Artist in Residence, School of Music and Performance) and Dr Kay Hodgins (Evolutionary Biologist, School of Biological Sciences)

Workshop 2 Navigating indeterminacy in experimental practice – Featuring Professor Michael Fuhrer (Director of the ARC Centre of Excellence in FLEET and the Monash Centre for Atomically Thin Materials (MCATM)) and Dr Annie Hui-Hsin Hsieh (Composer, Carnegie Mellon University)

Workshop 3 Entanglements with intangible materials: process and design in sound and science – Featuring Dr Rosemary Mardling (Astrophysicist, School of Physics and Astronomy) and Erkki Veltheim (Composer/Performer/Director)
