Who can apply for CDL?

CDL is open to early-stage science and technology companies across the Asia-Pacific with differentiated, scalable, and defensible solutions.

Ideal applicants are founder-led ventures seeking mentorship from a global network of experienced entrepreneurs, investors, and scientists. We look for companies with novel technologies, typically at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 4–6, and teams well-positioned to bring those innovations to market.

CDL-Melbourne accepts ventures across a range of sectors, including energy, automation, and minerals. University affiliation is not required.

What happens at CDL?

CDL-Melbourne runs three full-day, in-person objective-setting sessions in Melbourne and participates in an annual Super Session hosted in Toronto. The program includes:

  • Mentorship from accomplished entrepreneurs and investors: Every 14 weeks, CDL ventures meet with mentors in curated sessions to assess progress and set clear, short-term objectives. Fellows and Associates—experienced operators and investors—guide founders on strategy, prioritisation, and execution.
  • Opportunities to raise capital: CDL Mentors include exited founders, angel investors, and venture capital partners. While funding is not guaranteed, investment often follows strong venture performance and milestone achievement throughout the program.
  • Technical feedback from world-leading scientists: Academic experts from Monash and the broader CDL network advise founders on validating and advancing their core technologies, helping bridge the gap between science and commercial impact.

What is the commitment from ventures?

Founders are expected to attend all three in-person sessions in Melbourne. The Super Session in Toronto is an optional capstone event that brings together ventures, mentors, investors, and industry partners from all CDL locations worldwide, and is strongly encouraged for graduating ventures.
