2022 Financial Markets and Corporate Governance Conference (FMCG 2022)
Monash Business School is proud to host the 12th Financial Markets and Corporate Governance Conference and PhD symposium (FMCG 2022). This free event will be held virtually across three days.
With a comprehensive program including multiple concurrent sessions, this conference will bring together leading experts from around the world to discuss, consider and share current research and emerging trends in the Australian and international finance sector.
The conference will include daily keynote presentations by leading finance scholars and in-depth panel sessions on digital finance, environmental finance and superannuation (pension) funds, that will appeal to both academics and practitioners.
Keynote speakers
Professor Wei Jiang
Presentation: Corporate governance meets data and technology
Wei Jiang is the Arthur F. Burns Professor of Free and Competitive Enterprise in the Finance Division at Columbia Business School. She is also a Scholar-in-Residence at Columbia Law School, a senior fellow at the Program on Corporate Governance at Harvard Law School, and a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) in the Law and Economics Program. She is currently the vice president of the Society of Financial Studies.
Prof Jiang is a leading scholar in corporate governance. She pioneered research in hedge fund activism and her current research focuses on how technology has reshaped the financial markets. She has published extensively in top economics, finance, and law journals, and her research has been frequently featured in major media, including The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, Institutional Investors, Money, Fortune, Business Week, New York Times and Financial Times. Professor Jiang received her PhD in Economics from the University of Chicago.
Professor Roni Michaely
Presentation: Greenwashing and funds’ strategic voting on environmental (and social) issues
Roni Michaely is a professor of finance and entrepreneurship at the University of Hong Kong. Prof Michaely’s research interests are in the areas of empirical corporate finance, corporate governance, entrepreneurial finance and financial technology (fintech).
His current research focuses on how frictions in capital markets affect managers’ corporate decisions and new product developments, with a particular focus on corporate pay-out policy, the effect of competition in firms’ behaviour, and the impact of fintech on capital market efficiency.
He was recently recognised as one of the most prolific researchers in finance with more than 25,000 citations. His research has been frequently featured in media including The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, The Economist, Investor’s Business Daily, Bloomberg, BusinessWeek, Forbes, Barrons and Money.
Professor Lu Zhang
Presentation: Asymmetric investment rates
Lu Zhang is the John W. Galbreath Chair and a professor of finance at the Fisher College of Business, Ohio State University, and a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (Asset Pricing program).
Dr Zhang is an associate editor for the Journal of Financial Economics and the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis. He is the founding president of Macro Finance Society, an international academic society devoted to advancing and disseminating high-quality research at the intersection of financial economics and macroeconomics.
Dr Zhang’s research focuses on asset pricing, in connection with macroeconomics, corporate finance, labor economics, and capital markets research in accounting. His academic research has been frequently featured in prominent media outlets such as The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Shanghai Financial News, and The Economist.
