About us

Who we are

The Monash Centre for Financial Studies (MCFS) is a specialised unit within the Monash Business School, strategically positioned to undertake practitioner-relevant research and education and promote thought leadership in the financial sector. We consider research to be of practical importance if its findings have policy implications, improve decision-making, or contribute to solving pressing challenges.

MCFS is an essential vehicle for the Monash Business School and the broader Monash University community to engage with the financial industry and its various stakeholders, including executives, industry associations, regulators, policy-makers and other influencers. Our engagement activities facilitate the two-way transfer of knowledge and expertise between academia and practice. MCFS enriches finance education at Monash by delivering specialist experiential units that integrate rigorous academic knowledge with real-world insights, ensuring students learn the fundamentals of investment and emerging financial trends directly from industry experts and leading researchers.

We aim to enhance Australia's global standing and competitiveness in the financial sector. We support Australia as an international centre for finance practice, research and education, thereby promoting the long-term prosperity of the financial sector and its stakeholders.

Our office in the Melbourne CBD offers proximity to a vibrant financial community, including banks, pension and sovereign wealth funds, investment companies, consulting firms, regulators, policymakers, government departments, and technology businesses that are disrupting the financial industry. This enables our staff and associated faculty to interact efficiently with the practitioner community.
