How to use multi-factor authentication (MFA) overseas
Whenever you log into your Monash account from a new device, web browser or country, you’ll need to verify your identity with multi-factor authentication (MFA). This means using Okta Verify, Google Authenticator or a YubiKey in addition to your password.
If you want to log into your Monash account while travelling overseas:
- take your smartphone with you – you’ll need multi-factor authentication (MFA) to log in from a new country
- you won’t need internet access or data coverage unless you want to receive Okta Verify push notifications
- make sure the date and time on your smartphone match those of your location
- if you switch to a different smartphone, you’ll need to set it up for MFA (but no need to do anything if you change your SIM card, mobile number or mobile provider).
When you’re in China, use Okta Verify – Google services are often blocked. You may also find that you can’t receive push notifications on Android smartphones. Find out how to log in from China.
