Making Space
Tucked into Level 2 of Building F at Monash Art, Design and Architecture, the F2 Making Space is a student-centred workshop environment designed to support the kind of exploratory, hands-on work that sits at the heart of architectural education.

The space emerged from a simple observation, backed by student and staff feedback alike. Architecture students need somewhere to make things. Not just to complete assignments, but to experiment, fail, iterate, and discover. The F2 Making Space offers that room. It is open every day with no need to book, and comes equipped with large and heavy-duty maker tables, small group tables, chairs, model plinths, XL storage for models and materials, mobile shelving, AV streaming. Basic tools are also available to borrow from our nearby Reception. Work-in-progress displays are part of the culture too. This is a space that takes making seriously enough to show it off.
Looking ahead, the F2 Making Space will support workshops and a show&tell talk series alongside other events and exhibitions, building a programme that reflects the interests and energy of the Architecture community.
At the centre of that effort is a new F2 Making Team of Bachelor students including Jackson Le, Abby Tsen, Minja Zlatic, Safwan Aftab, Charlotte Callea, and Julia Bekin. Already at work this semester, the team is co-developing protocols for the space, gathering input on how students want to use it, and generating ideas for future events and workshops. Their work is laying the groundwork for F2 to become a genuinely student-shaped environment: not just in name, but in practice.
In Semester 2, that groundwork will open into something wider: a call for volunteers to help care for, maintain, and program the space. If you have energy for making, organising, or simply keeping a shared space in good working order, there will be a place for you.
The F2 Making Space is prioritised for our Bachelor of Architecture students but of course, all Architecture students and staff are very welcome. Open Monday to Friday, 7:00am–10:00pm, and weekends, 7:00am–5:00pm.
