About the Bachelor of Fine Art folio presentation

Applicants are required to attend an online presentation and present a folio for review. This is an opportunity for you to talk about your work and ask any questions about Monash Fine Art; think of it as a 10-minute chat about your artworks with staff members who really want to learn about your creative art practice!

To arrange your presentation, please email fineart-presentations@monash.edu directly.

If you are applying for more than one Fine Art course (for example, you are applying for the Bachelor of Fine art AND a double degree which includes Fine Art), you only need to present your folio once.

International and direct applicants, and current Monash students must also book an appointment to present a folio.

If you have successfully completed the Fine Art Folio presentation in the past 12 months please email fineart-presentations@monash.edu, as this outcome can be used for the next available intake.

Once your booking is completed, you will receive a confirmation email with the Zoom meeting link immediately. If it does not appear in your inbox, please check your junk or spam folder. If you have not received the link within 24 hours of booking, please get in touch with us.

Watch this video to learn more about your folio presentation.

Preparing for your folio presentation

The presentation will serve two purposes:

  1. You will demonstrate awareness of the discipline by:
    1. Communicating your interest in studying Fine Art
    2. Sharing your motivation and enthusiasm for the degree
    3. Articulating any previous experience connected to the degree
  2. You will demonstrate evidence of creative aptitude by:
    1. Bringing along a folio, whether physical and/or digital, that best exemplifies your creative art practice
      • If you are presenting a digital folio, you will need to bring your own device (i.e. laptop, tablet) with the work pre-loaded and easy to share
      • What you choose to submit is up to you! Works such as paintings or sculptures should be photographed clearly if too big to present them physically. You may also wish to include pages from your visual journal, showing progression of works from ideas to completion
    2. Clearly articulating your creative art practice and process
    3. Communicating the ideas and influences that impact your creative art practice

Folio presentation evaluation

Students will be assessed on the extent that their folio presentation demonstrates:

  • Use of creative techniques and material processes
  • Imaginative exploration of ideas through creative practice
  • Critical thinking with an ability to analyse, interpret and respond to artworks and creative disciplines
  • Ability to embrace creative challenges
  • Engagement and strong communication of ideas

About Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) Selection and Eligibility

Domestic applicants for graduate coursework degrees may be eligible for a government subsidised CSP place. These places are offered to graduate coursework students according to course selection criteria.

All eligible applicants who apply before the initial CSP allocation date for each intake will be considered and ranked according to course specific selection criteria, and offered CSP places according to available CSP for the course. The allocation dates are as follows:

  • Semester 1 2026: Friday 7 November 2025
  • Semester 2 2026: Friday 29 May 2026

If successful, you’ll be notified of the outcome with an offer letter issued to you. You’ll have about two weeks from the date of offer to accept the place, otherwise your place may be allocated to other candidates.

After this initial CSP allocation round, you can still apply for the course and you may still be able to receive a CSP place. We’ll make further CSP offers according to the course CSP selection criteria, if CSP places are available for your course. Otherwise, you may need to consider a full-fee place to study in your chosen course. You may be eligible for Fee-Help loans to help cover the cost of your study.

We consider all newly commencing domestic graduate coursework students - you don’t need to do anything further to apply. If you defer your offer, you will be considered for a CSP place in the intake that you seek to commence your studies.

Course CSP selection criteria are outlined below.
