Fine art folio
Presentation

The primary entry requirement into the Bachelor of Fine art is based on a folio presentation. A folio presentation is a 20-minute session between you and the assessor on your folio. It may consist of 10 minutes for you to present your work and processes, and another 10 minutes for questions and discussion. This can be done face-to-face or online via Zoom.

This is an opportunity for you to talk about your work and ask any questions about Monash Fine Art; think of it as a 10-minute chat about your artworks with staff members who really want to learn about your creative art practice!

You will not be required to pre-submit your folio prior to the folio presentation.

Preparing for your folio presentation

Watch this video to learn more about your folio presentation.

What you choose to submit is up to you, as we are multidisciplinary. Your folio can be made up of solely one medium or several mediums if you so wish.

Your folio can be from different levels of study at high school or personal work. You will be expected to provide 4-10 pieces of final original work to speak to at the time of your folio presentation. You should also include other preparatory work to show the development of your pieces for discussion.

You may also wish to include pages from your visual journal, showing progression of works from ideas to completion

For a face-to-face folio presentation

  • Bring along a folio, whether physical and/or digital, that best exemplifies your creative art practice.
  • Works such as paintings or sculptures should be photographed clearly if too big to present them physically.
  • If you are presenting a digital folio, you will need to bring your own device (i.e. laptop, tablet) with the work pre-loaded and easy to share.

Zoom folio presentation

  • You will need to digitise your work to be able to share with assessors on the day via Zoom.
  • This may include scanning or photographing your work to capture them in the best light.
  • You will also need to be familiar with the functions such as the audio/ video functions and sharing your screen during the folio presentation.

NB. Please be aware of any accessibility issues for Zoom in your home country.

The presentation will serve two purposes:

  1. You will demonstrate awareness of the discipline by:
    1. Communicating your interest in studying Fine Art
    2. Sharing your motivation and enthusiasm for the degree
    3. Articulating any previous experience connected to the degree
  2. You will demonstrate evidence of creative aptitude by
    1. Clearly articulating your creative art practice and process
    2. Communicating the ideas and influences that impact your creative art practice

Folio presentation evaluation

Students will be assessed on the extent to which their folio presentation demonstrates:

  • Use of creative techniques and material processes
  • Imaginative exploration of ideas through creative practice
  • Critical thinking with an ability to analyse, interpret and respond to artworks and creative disciplines
  • Ability to embrace creative challenges
  • Engagement and strong communication of ideas
