Autumn Room

Autumn Room was a temporary installation beneath the three London Plane trees in the courtyard of Collingwood Yards. The trees were used as an armature for three fabric shelters that replace the fallen leaf canopy over autumn and winter.

The project was intended to provoke and demonstrate alternative ways of creating semi-permanent spaces in response to seasonal needs. It proposes a world that embraces current notions of de-growth, reuse, and non-disturbance / occupation of land.

The canopies were made from a water resistant, lightweight nylon, sewn by hand, recalling the former use of the site as a trade training centre that included dressmaking. The timbers used on the tops of the benches were salvaged from an old stone-masons warehouse circa 1950's, on the banks of the Merri Creek in Northcote by the team at Revival.
