Sealight Pavilion

The Sealight Pavilion was a site-specific installation in Docklands, Melbourne. The project aimed to respond to the lack of human scale public space and the loss of connection to the natural environment that had resulted from the rapid development of Docklands over preceding years. The project engaged those encountering the spaces with the sky and the sea, framing particular experiences of these via two small timber spaces.

The two spaces were made from locally sourcea reclaimed cypress pine timber that had fallen in strong winds and incorporated sand ballast as a way to anchor the structure to the existing concrete pier.

The project was badly burned in a fire in 2022, following which the timber was reclaimed by the a material upcycling practice called Revival.
