Yatai

Yatai was a project undertaken in collaboration with students and staff from Ritsumeikan University in Osaka, Japan. Monash University students traveled to Japan to design and make a series of urban interventions at the shopping district around Ibaraki Station.
7 temporary projects were designed and made by mixed teams of students from both universities in response to the prompt to make semi-public spaces that act as interfaces between the shops and the public space of the shopping district.
The primary material for the project was 2 x 4 lumber and projects were largely prefabricated and then installed in situ ahead of a self-organised Yatai festival.
