Melbourne Design Week is an annual 11-day program of talks, tours, exhibitions and workshops that celebrate and interrogate design through its varied disciplines. The 2023 program celebrates the potential of design to transform our environment – from the inside our homes to the entire planet – with the call-for-action for individuals and organisations to ‘Design the world you want’. This provocation asks designers to think outside the status quo in order to face the multiple challenges that encircle us: loneliness, climate disasters, social inequity, and the cost-of-living.
Monash Design presents Make with...
This week-long series of talks, exhibitions and workshops will explore the crucial role of end-users and non-design experts in the design process. It is only through 'designing with' that we can be sure that the intentions and ambitions of the design are met. Co-designing with communities, individuals and experts in fields other than design, results in a richer, more nuanced design solution that puts the user—and the users' environment—firmly in at the forefront of need. Monash Design, and its many collaborators, all deploy a deeply research-informed approach to solution finding that involves an authentic engagement with people. Through this program of events that interrogate the future of health, urban safety, mobility, identity and inclusion, the function play, accessibility, and digital technologies, Monash and its affiliates will demonstrate the need for authentic engagement with those outside our field, and ultimately those who are to benefit from the design outcomes.
