Shaping Indonesia Community though Innovative Slum Upgrading
As part of our annual Department of Architecture, Urban Planning and Design PhD Symposium, Dr. Mahditia Paramita will be providing a keynote lecture in Building G, room G104, titled "Shaping Indonesia Community though Innovative Slum Upgrading."
Dr. Paramita is CEO of Caritra Indonesia Social Enterprise for almost 18 years. Her organization is in 11 provinces out of 38 provinces in Indonesia (Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Central Sulawesi, Papua, Gorontalo, East Kalimantan, Riau, Medan, Ambon, Wonosobo, and Central Java). With a multidisciplinary background in architecture, urban planning, and public policy, her expertise spans disaster resilience, housing policy, and community development. She is a certified Urban Design Principal and Community Empowerment Advisor recognized by Indonesia's Professional Certification Authority, advocating for cultural heritage and sustainable development in design practices.
Over the past five years, Mahditia collaborated with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) on post-disaster projects in water resource and reconstruction of university in Central Sulawesi. In 2023, she developed disaster mitigation training modules for National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and became Public Policy Specialist for the Affordable Housing and Public Buildings as Renewable Energy Power Grid project with Castalia Limited and the World Bank, promoting clean energy integration in urban systems.
Mahditia also contributed to gender-sensitive housing policy initiatives and join the team in formulation of Indonesia Housing Policy Roadmap with the World Bank. While teaching at Gadjah Mada University, she researched waterfront urbanism, sustainability in housing, and interdisciplinary solutions for urban challenges. A prolific author, she has published 64 works through Caritra Indonesia publishing. Her ongoing projects reflect a commitment to creative practices and transformative urban policies.
