YAWA AWAY
YAWA AWAY presents work by current Monash Fine Art HDR candidates Clara Joyce (MFA), Eleanor Butt (MFA) and Bradley Webb (PhD, Wominjeka Djeembana Indigenous Research Lab).
In Boon Wurrung language yawa can mean a journey or pathway; a way one might travel. Paired with the English word away, we think of the travel one undergoes in research, as well as a direction and a way. In creative practice and research this journey is often expansive, connective and relational; drawing in knowledge and support from those around you and those who have come before. Research of this kind walks together toward more knowledge(s), more understanding(s) and greater networks of meaning. The palindromic pairing draws in a further association that research is sometimes circular, or feels like moving backwards and forwards at once.
