Field notes on materials, place and time | Simulaa | DOA Guest Lecture

Join us for a lecture hosted by the Department of Architecture, Monash University.

This lecture introduces Simulaa's ongoing interest in bioregional design, exploring how local materials, industries, agricultural systems and landscapes can inform contemporary architecture. Through a series of research projects, prototypes, and material experiments, their work speculates on the potential for bioregional resources to contribute to a more materially diverse approach to construction grounded in the particular conditions of place.

Simulaa is an architectural practice established in Naarm/Melbourne by Andre Bonnice and Anna Jankovic. The work of the practice is defined by a considered analysis and a research-based approach that prioritises time-based design thinking. Their work spans a broad range of scales and contexts, exploring how architecture might respond and act in a world defined by environmental limits, interrelational systems, and layered temporalities. Bonnice and Jankovic both serve as lecturers in architecture, teaching and undertaking research at the University of Melbourne and RMIT University, respectively.
