Dr Vanessa Johnston
Vanessa Johnston is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Law at RMIT University. Her research focuses on issues at the intersection of climate change, property law and sustainable land uses - including for active transport activities of cycling, scooting and walking. Her research into active transport is highly applied and often transdisciplinary. As a founding member of Bike Research Team, she works closely with designers and social scientists on cycling-related road safety projects that produce research outputs including road safety videos, infographics, and road rule cards. She has consulted to the Victorian Government Department of Transport and Planning on pedestrian and cycling road rules and liability, and has been invited to participate in expert working groups on cycling and micromobility planning and also pedestrian safety. She is a lead author of the 'regulation' chapter of the Australasian College of Road Safety's body of knowledge.
