Dr Jiyoon Lee
Jiyoon is a design educator and UX Designer specialising in human-computer interaction, socio-technical speculation and inclusive design.
Jiyoon currently serves as Unit Coordinator for the Interaction Design specialisation in the Master of Design program, where she develops and coordinates curricula for all levels of studio units covering advanced topics such as user experience design, interface design, ethnographic research and interactive prototyping. As part of her approach to design education, she emphasises methods and practices for designing for social impact by critically investigating the evolving relationships between emerging technologies and diverse societal groups, creating design interventions that resonate with human values and practices. Along with her teaching commitments, she conducts research activities in the Design Health Collab.
She holds a PhD in Design from Monash University, which she completed in the Mobility Design Lab and the Emerging Technologies Research Lab. Her research investigated the complexities of emerging digital mobility solutions and their potential impact on ageing mobility and digital exclusion of seniors. Her academic foundation includes a Master by Research degree in Experience Design from Kookmin University in Seoul. She completed a BFA specialising in furniture and lighting design from Hongik University in Seoul.
Jiyoon is actively involved in industry and has worked with various national and international partners to enhance customer experience in the rapid digitalisation of products and services, including Transurban, the University of Melbourne, the City of Melbourne, SK Telecom and the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea. She is also an active member of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making and Society, participating in various interdisciplinary projects addressing social issues in automated decision-making. Her professional experience enables her to align teaching content with industry standards and help students prepare for workplace success by incorporating real-world challenges into coursework.
