Next generation of artists, curators, designers and architects unveil work at MADA Now
MADA Now 2023 exhibition website is now live
The MADA Now 2023 website offers a rich and comprehensive resource of the work of over 600 of Monash’s Art, Design and Architecture (MADA) graduating students.
This year’s exhibition features work from Brayden Dopper, whose multidisciplinary practice is interested in how we charge objects with memory and emotions and Poppy Faul, whose works are inspired by the humble fanaticism of everyday life from celebrity obsession to peppermint tea.
The exhibition also showcases the practices of the Art History and Curating cohort, including Camille Hassan, who has produced an archival publication documenting her own relationship with her late mothers’ work and Lauren Kennedy who is interested in exploring the way we understand and relate to art through our individual embodied experience.
From the Fine Art Honours program, Teagan Ramsay’s curatorial project explores the possibilities of sound as curatorial intervention to decenter the optic in exhibition making and Lilly Skipper contemplates what it is to cultivate a practice of vulnerable disinterest in resolution, subverting multiplicities of objects to dysfunctional forms.
Associate Professor Spiros Panigirakis, Head of the Fine Art department at Monash Art, Design and Architecture says, “MADA now showcases the breadth of practices fostered by the Fine Art department at Monash. Across the Bachelor of Fine Art, Bachelor of Art History and Curating and our prestigious Honours program, our MADA Now exhibition is the culmination of everything our students have learnt along their journey with us and it’s so exciting to see this incredible work emerge out of the studios and into the gallery.
“It's incredibly rewarding to see the development of so many different visual languages, perspectives, media, and ways of being in the world. Because the artworld and this exhibition is not just about artworks but about how communities gather, form and strengthen.
“We congratulate all the students on their achievements and look forward to seeing what the future holds for them as they forge careers across all roles in the arts sector.”
