Dr David Trickey is an industrial designer, maker, and researcher at Monash Art, Design and Architecture (MADA). He holds a PhD in Design from Monash University, a First-Class Honours Bachelor's in Design from Heriot-Watt University, and a National Diploma in Art & Design, as well as City & Guilds qualifications in Furniture Design from the London College of Furniture.

With trade qualifications in cabinet making from H.K. Furniture in London, he has gained expertise in wood, metal, plastics, CAD, and upholstery. His studies at Edinburgh College of Art further expanded his skills in photography, graphic presentations, film sets and props for TV productions, and fully prototyped sculptural furniture designs.

Professionally, Dave has contributed to major design projects at Derek Hodgson Associates (DHA), with numerous works scattered around Scotland. Ranging from outdoor furniture at railway stations and town halls, to a suite of office furniture, London Underground products and signage/displays at the National Museum of Scotland. An office furniture range called “Anser” from DHA and Babcock International was exhibited at the Orgatec Furniture Show in Cologne, Germany.

At Ben Dawson Furniture, where he worked on projects for the Scottish Parliament, British Airports Authority, Linn Speakers, the Hakkasan Group, and the Royal Bank of Scotland. His expertise in these two companies spans 3D AutoCAD, CNC programming, prototyping, assembling and manufacturing in the workshop.

Currently, Dave’s research is on emergency shelters for post-disaster self-recovery and goals that align with Monash University's Impact 2023. As a full-time Educational Focused Assistant Lecturer, he teaches Industrial Design, Collaborative Design, and Design Research Studios, guiding students toward academic and professional success in their fields of Design.
