Dr Lisa Giusti Gestri
Academic Research Assistant, Future Building Initiative
Dr Lisa Giusti Gestri completed her studies in Industrial Design at the University of Florence (Italy). She started her professional life working in Italy and then in Australia as an Industrial and Product Designer in various fields (high-end residential and commercial products and buildings, vehicles, train interiors, sports PPE). After several years in the work industry, she decided to return to Academia, where she completed her PhD (Design) at the Centre for Design Innovation at Swinburne University of Technology (VIC, Australia). Lisa's design research proposed a framework (D-UX) which may help address the needs of users and co-dependent users, where who all depend on the success of the same product’s design, along with the importance of product standards to apply ergonomics and advanced materials. The application of the D-UX process will be pivotal to guarantee the design success of a product and even provide foundations for future directions in design research. Still, at the Swinburne University of Technology, Lisa taught engineering students for years before joining Monash University (Engineering, Design and Innovation with participation in one of the Engineers Without Borders Australia projects).
Dr Giusti Gestri is passionate about the power of design to change people’s lives for the better. She is an interdisciplinary design researcher and is interested in how design might impact the world. With a strong background in design, construction and project management for more than two decades, Lisa is a forward thinker who is committed to achieving the best results for her projects. She possesses an engaging, dynamic, and enthusiastic professional personality along with a keen interest in multiple facets of design, design thinking, human-centred design, innovation and technology, advanced materials, and design research, which she uses as a major source of inspiration. From concept design and considered spatial planning, teamed with exceptional attention to detail and users' needs, these experiences are captured in her work, ensuring her project is well-considered, resolved, and meaningful. Using a holistic approach, she translates concepts into functional designs to meet the unique needs of each situation and coordinates cross-functionally to deliver quality outcomes on time and within budget. Lisa’s strong skills support her passion for creating value for the built environment via design value along with strong business acumen, well-versed in real-life project and process management.
