Designing Quantum Futures

This research stream draws on longitudinal co-design processes to engage Australian populations to envisage and articulate a future state experience where Quantum innovations are embedded across life and work (education, health, banking and finance, resources etc.).

Diverse stakeholders from manufacturing and healthcare through education and banking will collectively identify core aspects and resources required to support Quantum readiness in Australia. Translating policy to practice, the research stream translates the World Economic Forum Quantum Values, the National Quantum Strategy, and State-based Quantum strategies into actionable approaches to support Australian citizens, workforce and industry in Quantum readiness. It will also showcase the importance of design processes in convening broad stakeholder communities to co-design better socio-technical futures and collectively develop translational resources to manage these complex societal transitions.

There are three sectors of the engagement work:

  1. engaging with quantum technologists to understand what their end users (citizens and industries) need to get ready to adopt their innovations, and what workforce skills and competencies are needed
  2. engaging citizens around Australia (e.g. via schools, universities, workplaces and digital spaces) to understand what they understand about Quantum, and what they need to know to improve uptake and use of Quantum innovations
  3. engaging policy makers, educators etc. to create tangible resources and training to support quantum uptake by Australian citizens and industries.
