Between Architecture and Philosophy


Synopsis

What can philosophy really offer to the practice of architecture? What can it help architecture to think and do? This is the aim of the studio: to reflect on the role that theory plays in the practice of architecture. The material for this reflection will be drawn from significant thinkers in twentieth century European theory.

To develop a familiarity with the work of key twentieth century thinkers - and to interrogate the theory/practice interface. To consider

Tasks

Every second week, participants will submit a 300-500 word written text that engages with one of the discussed thinkers in light of the participant’s practice (five pieces, 40% in total). One of these pieces will be developed into a 2000 word reflective essay (60%)
