This Studies Unit (also linked with a Design Studio) will seek to explore new methodologies, typologies and approaches for the design of a Child and Family Mental health facility in Melbourne. This is a real project established through the Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) and the Victorian Health and Human Services Building Authority (VHHSBA).

Project summary

The main aim of the studies unit is to explore communication techniques be it verbally, through 2D graphics, 3D techniques or film for example. These communication techniques will be tested, and discussed throughout the semester not only by those in the architecture faculty but other professions, and those linked to the design brief.

Project objectives

Research into the existing and current typologies for relevant projects. this will include selective readings and discussions/ contributions in class on a regular basis. An ability to utilize different types of communication techniques to explain conceptual thinking.


Communication, language and Research will be critical components of this Studies Unit outcome and deliverables.
