New Agency

People are living longer today. The life expectancy of human beings has almost doubled in the last hundred years (from 40 to 80) extending the retirement age. As the retirement of many in wealthy economies relies upon the asset of the family home (with savings, such as superannuation), and with home ownership becoming an impossibility for a huge swathe of younger people, how do these trends influence future models of living for the elderly?

This elective investigates current and future conditions of housing for our elders — grey nomads, retirement living, aged care, ageing-in-place and affordable housing — through understanding, analysing and speculating on changes in the built environment across multiple scales and typologies through drawing.
