Donald, Victoria

Donald, Victoria will explore strategies of infill housing within the regional town of Donald. Like many regional townships, Donald is experiencing complex housing issues due to an ageing population, a lack in diversity of exisiting housing stock and a potential increase in relocating workers and lifestyle migrants moving to the region. Infill housing has been identified by both the local shire and the regions development association as a way to diversify and increase housing stock.

This study unit will consist of three components:

1. Infill Strategies
Learning from case studies students will get a broad understanding of different approaches to infill housing.

2. Visiting Site
Students will have the opportunity to deal directly with the Shire of Buloke and the Wimmera Development Association of 2 day site visit to explore, document and record the town of Donald.

3. Strategic Map of Development
Tactics of infill will be deployed strategically across the township culminating in a map of development. This map looks not only at the spatial development of the town but also at how this is staged over time and the relationships between projects. Accompanying the map will be proposed plans to site documentation.

Particular attention will be paid to tenure types with social, disabled, aged and affordable housing being prioritised.
