In this unit, students develop knowledge and skills around the legal nad governance frameworks that underpin the implementation of planning in Victoria and Australia, set within national and international contexts. Students learn how to critically analyse the roles and powers of governments, markets and communitie, and thier respective impacts on policy and planning.
Through a breadth of readings and practical examples, the unit will help students to develop critical skills about how planning operates in range of situations, including a command of historical and contemporary approaches to the regulatory contexts shaping planning system; the ability to research and understand planning principles and frameworks in Australia in a global context; interpretation legal codes and policies and apply them through planning instruments: understanding of the complex political environments and the impacts of these planning cities; ability to apply the rules of occupational health and safety appropriate to the unit of study.
