With so many typologies being blurred together nowadays, what is your strategy for approaching spaces with multiple functions? Is “typology” a term that continues to have relevance? This studio starts from the hypothesis typologies of the city of the future will no longer be singular! But will more mixology, an architectural balancing act will produce endless typological outcomes. The success of these new types will ultimately depend on how they celebrate the diversity, complexity and anomalies they afford.
We will specifically address a residue site, examining how it is currently manifested in cities worldwide, identifying emerging models and historical precedents, and thenimagining radical new propositions at both the urban and architectural scale. Only byreinventing these institutions – their logic and their forms – can we reinvent the city's future.
