The Three Little Pigs
Course
- Bachelor of Architectural Design Semester 2, 2022
Studio leaders
- Peter Charles

The studio will focus on material narraves and assembly techniques of mber, stone and ceramics, The studio will focus on hands-on exploratory work with materials, exploraon of the Hoddle grid, and digital techniques, for manufacture.
You will need to be curious, dextrous, agile, independant & exploratory.
The studio will operate in 3 modes: making in workshops, digital skilling and city exploraons to extract strategies for thresholds between condions.
We will develop systemised building envelopes concepts related to facade porosity to negoate condions
The three lile pigs is a story about building three houses from straw, wood and brick each with various capacies to negoate exibility and thresholds between condions. The Melbourne Hoddle grid has various blocks that feature dominant materials according to their historical period. In the south there is more bluestone and brick, moving to concrete, then purple glass further north. Some mber dwellings remain scaered. We will use material narraves as an operave lens to view Melbournes construcon, its character. We will speculate on new alternaves for mber, stone and ceramics using digital generave and parametric tools to explore component based construcon systems for building envelopes and interface with manufacturing techniques. We will think through the relaonship between urban intensicaon and its relaonship to supply chains and distant sites of material extracon.
