To Assimilate is an exploration of my past and my present; where I come from and where I am; what I have learned and what I must learn. To assimilate is to integrate and be regarded as similar. My work in a sense is a revision of my past.
It explores the relationship between Gurmukhi scripture and geometric abstraction.
With influences from my heritage and my current lifestyle, I’ve created smaller abstraction works on multiple panels that would be put together to create an even larger work. When put together, it produces a map that is made of parts of the Gurmukhi scripture and fragments of my first name.
The idea of smaller pieces of work making up a large scaled work; its size; is a key element that I intend of exploring more. In an attempt to take back my name, to have this work be larger than life and take up as much space as possible.
This work is an ode to my heritage.
