My thematic ideas operate under the notion that Western culture assumes itself on ideas which form hierarchy for themselves over other cultures. Asian Australian communities face a daily challenge of being discrimination, miscomprehension and stigma of the unnecessary degree of assimilation into so-called Australian culture.
In reflection of the experiences of myself and my family and my friends, my practice aims to introduce and create an alternate, self-determined representation of Asian Australian identity and investigate how Korean culture continues to develop and transform.
Research methods of studying traditional imageries of Korean folk painting and poetry. By presenting the audience revised figurative art of Korea and have them interact with my poetry-which springs from my love of hip hop and rap. The narrative of the paintings aims to express the struggle of isolation, ambitions, personal challenges and eventually, finding my ground to stand.
