Lisa Huntley’s spatial interventions explore ideas of organic abstraction and childhood nostalgia. Lisa is an interdisciplinary artist with a focus on installation, textiles, collage and book making. Her collage practice is a direct influence on the visual language articulated in her sculptures and environments. Her approach to making is intuitive and practical.

Ideas of play, nostalgia and emotions are overriding themes in Lisa’s practice. The experience of time and shared encounters for the audience are integral concerns.

For her final semester Lisa has produced a work that responds to the distinctive art deco architecture of the staircase in Building D. The staircase acts as a skeletal framework, providing levels of height and structural integrity for her installation. Playing off the staircase, the series of parachutes utilise cotton thread to secure the multi-chromatic fabric. Tight, taught, draped, and airy; these elements create a dialogue between gravity and weightlessness. Interwoven with these large-scale textile pieces are sections of torn fabric and twisted bows hovering over the curves of the stairwell. Suspended in time, the work is intended to evoke a sense of memory and impermanence.
