My work attempts to transform discarded everyday materials into symbolic life forms that speak of fragile emotional states and mysterious alien worlds. By trapping air in stitched plastic bags these strange sculptural forms are captured illuminated and ‘breathing’. They appear delicate and alive, yet without any internal structure or support they have the potential to collapse or float away. Repeated red stitches perform a figurative function as the life-blood of these structures while also creating a tension between confinement and release; pleasure and pain; fragility and strength. Across a sequence of large format photographs details dissolve and light extinguishes drawing the viewer further and further into the strangeness of the image.
