This body of work attempts to marry intuitive and systematic approaches of creating abstract work. The relationship between the natural and artificial is an ongoing concern. My work is influenced by my understanding of the Japanese aesthetic wabi-sabi which values imperfection, impermanence, unconventionality and modesty. I am attracted to materials and processes that demand a direct tactile engagement, resulting in work that maintains an evident connection to the body. My approach to materials is personal and intuitive and the work evolves during the process of making. The use of repetition and working in series brings into consideration the relationship of part to whole.
